چکیده

In this paper we propose a fully automatic 2-stage cascaded approach for segmentation of liver and its tumors in CT (Computed Tomography) images using densely connected fully convolutional neural network (DenseNet). We independently train liver and tumor segmentation models and cascade them for a combined segmentation of the liver and its tumor. The first stage involves segmentation of liver and the second stage uses the first stage’s segmentation results for localization of liver and henceforth tumor segmentations inside liver region. The liver model was trained on the down-sampled axial slices (256× 256), whereas for the tumor model no down-sampling of slices was done, but instead it was trained on the CT axial slices windowed at three different Hounsfield (HU) levels. On the test set our model achieved a global dice score of 0.923 and 0.625 on liver and tumor respectively. The computed tumor burden had an rmse of 0.044. Keywords—CNN, FCN, DenseNet, Liver Tumor, dice loss.

H-DenseUNet: Hybrid Densely Connected UNet for Liver and Liver Tumor Segmentation from CT Volumes

Liver and liver tumor segmentation plays an important role in hepatocellular carcinoma diagnosis and treatment planning. Recently, fully convolutional neural networks (FCNs) serve as the back-bone in many volumetric medical image segmentation tasks, including 2D and 3D FCNs. However, 2D convolutions can not fully leverage the spatial information along the z-axis direction while 3D convolutions ...

Diagnosis of brain tumor using PNN neural networks

Cells grow and then need a very neat method to create new cells that work properly to maintain the health of the body. When the ability to control the growth of the cells is lost, they are unconsidered and often divided without order. Exemplified cells form a tissue mass called the tumor. In fact, brain tumors are abnormal and uncontrolled cell proliferations. Segmentation methods are used in b...

Automatic segmentation of glioma tumors from BraTS 2018 challenge dataset using a 2D U-Net network

Background: Glioma is the most common primary brain tumor, and early detection of tumors is important in the treatment planning for the patient. The precise segmentation of the tumor and intratumoral areas on the MRI by a radiologist is the first step in the diagnosis, which, in addition to the consuming time, can also receive different diagnoses from different physicians. The aim of this study...

Neural Network-Based Automatic Liver Tumor Segmentation With Random Forest-Based Candidate Filtering

We present a fully automatic method employing convolutional neural networks based on the 2D U-net architecture and random forest classifier to solve the automatic liver lesion segmentation problem of the ISBI 2017 Liver Tumor Segmentation Challenge (LiTS). In order to constrain the ROI in which the tumors could be located, a liver segmentation is performed first. For the organ segmentation an e...

A multi-scale convolutional neural network for automatic cloud and cloud shadow detection from Gaofen-1 images

The reconstruction of the information contaminated by cloud and cloud shadow is an important step in pre-processing of high-resolution satellite images. The cloud and cloud shadow automatic segmentation could be the first step in the process of reconstructing the information contaminated by cloud and cloud shadow. This stage is a remarkable challenge due to the relatively inefficient performanc...
